What is important in good gym clothing / functional clothing?
In the summer of 2016, we asked you in our survey what is particularly important to you in your sports and training clothing. Over 50% of respondents answered that the outfit is very important to them and the clothes must match. 32% primarily pay attention to functionality, with style being less relevant. Brand clothing is a selection criterion for about 64% of the participants. What do you focus on? Mainly on the style, the colors, cuts, and patterns, or is the function more important to you?
Aesthetics and functionality do not have to contradict each other, but it makes sense to first pay attention to the functional details of the clothing for the perfect workout. We will explain what this means in detail here:
Breathable, Lightweight Fabrics
Nothing is more uncomfortable than doing sports in a sweat-soaked shirt. Fabrics that do not absorb sweat well, dry slowly, or even promote sweating (the feeling of wearing "plastic" with low-quality sports clothing) are not suitable for workouts. For example, cotton is one of the heavy fabrics, so a light wearing sensation is rarely possible. On the other hand, cotton clothing dries significantly slower than functional fabrics. Modern high-tech fabrics, on the other hand, are so soft and light that you hardly feel them on your skin during training.
At the same time, they are firm and elastic. The fibers absorb sweat, transport it to the outside, and ensure a dry wearing feeling. Thanks to "thermomanagement," your body is kept warm, you do not cool down and still get enough ventilation. This is achieved, for example, by mesh inserts on the clothes. It is also important that your workout clothes maintain their shape, even if you have worn and washed them often. Washed-out shirts are anything but attractive, so color fastness is an additional plus.
Freedom of Movement Despite Body-Hugging Cuts
Since many of you also want to show off your appearance in the gym, the cuts of your training pants and shirts make a difference. Particularly body-hugging shirts, but also workout shorts, should not be so tight that they restrict movement or, in the worst case, cut off circulation. Modern, well-thought-out cuts emphasize your well-trained body, e.g., your massive shoulders or trained legs, and still allow you every movement.
Details Make the Difference
Sometimes it's the little things that decide whether pants, a jacket, or a shirt become a favorite item. Zippers that are difficult to open and close, slipping sleeves and pant legs, or pressing seams can significantly reduce the fun of training. So make sure that the zippers are of good quality. Well-thought-out workout clothing does not slip or press.
Innovative adhesive techniques avoid annoying and prickly seams. If you want to train outside or go running, then pay attention to your safety. Reflective elements on the clothing ensure that you are seen well in the dark. To be prepared for all weather conditions, a wind and water-resistant jacket is sensible. At least one of your pieces of clothing should have a small pocket for your gym card or a key.
Conclusion: High-Tech Fabrics Ensure Function and Style
It's worth investing a bit more in your workout clothing because you will be rewarded with the highest functionality and style. Light, soft fabrics that you hardly feel when wearing, which keep you warm but at the same time dry and fresh, are a must for the optimal training feeling and good results: after all, you want to concentrate fully on your workout.
You are also doing something good for your body, as the thermomanagement of functional gym clothing ensures an optimal body temperature during training.
